Those Miserables

A little over a week ago, I had the chance to design a pretty amazing and kick-ass production of Les Miserables. I have always loved the show, I remember that some friends of my parents had seen the show in London, and had brought back a sweatshirt for me. I wore it ALL the time. And then I saw it when I was 18-19 years old, on my first trip to NYC, with the theatre department people at my undergraduate school. I had a great time on that trip, even though the city was a little scary, and flying there gave me the worst headache ever. We stayed at the Edison hotel, where “Oh! Calcutta” was playing in the theatre attached to the hotel. I never wanted to see that.  Euw.

But back to the subject. The show is playing in La Mirada, directed by Brian Kite, who directed the productions of Miss Saison and Spring Awakening that I designed. I was really intimidated by this show – I mean, it is iconic, and big.  And big.  I survived, but barely.  And now I wanna go back and keep working on it, to make it perfect…
