The holidays are nearly upon us and that means that I’ve been working on Holiday shows. I love them, I really do. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Long Beach Symphony for several years, and also with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles for over ten years. I’ve even been able to design a production of A Christmas Carol for AMDA – but this year (in addition to the upcoming GMCLA concert) I’m designed a newer musical called A Christmas Memory for The Laguna Playhouse.
It’s been ten years since I’ve designed a show here, and I’m thrilled that they’ve asked me back. The theatre is beautiful, the people are amazing, and then… its Laguna. Laguna is just a magical place.
But the main reason that I’m here is because of my friend Nick DeGruccio, a fantastic director who demanded that I design the show, and dragged me over here. Nick is a great director with a knack for working with new scripts, and is known as a director who gives actors a wealth of juicy insights that help them give standout performances. It’s my job to give each show a striking and visually stunning design that hammers home the story of each show, and reinforces what Nick pulls from the actors.
Hopefully, we’ve succeeded here!
